Lucy Person Wins Community Hero Award
Myers Park High School swimmer Lucy Person has been named the winner of the Community Hero Award, Presented by the Union County Comets. The 12th grade daughter of Joe and Beth Person lists her top events as the shorter distance freestyle races. More than anything Lucy enjoys cheering on her teammates at the school meets and building up the family atmosphere the squad enjoys. Lucy is also very proud of her work as a summer swim team coach where she has served for the past two summers. Working with younger swimmers and helping them to build their confidence brings great joy to Lucy.
In addition to serving as a swim coach for younger swimmers, Lucy is very involved with the Myers Park DREAM Team, a hand-selected class of 14 seniors that pledge to be drug, alcohol, and violence free. The Dream Team impacts the community by hosting kickball games to raise money for pediatric cancer research, distracted driving assemblies, and programs that discuss the dangers of substance use disorders. She has also worked with Charlotte’s Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide prevention and tutored younger school children from low Socio-Economic backgrounds all four years of high school.
Lucy is a strong student that has taken IB courses at Myers Park. She hopes to major in Psychology in college and will make a decision soon on which college to attend. Congratulations Lucy on being named the Community Hero of the Week Presented by The Union County Comets
