Charlotte Catholic High School senior volleyball player Lauren Hall plays setter for the Cougars. The daughter of Peter and Jennifer Hall is in charge of taking the second contact of the ball on each play. Let’s go Beyond The Game to learn more about Lauren.

What are the responsibilities of the setter position?

“My position takes the second contact of each play. By analyzing the lineups of our hitters and the opposing blockers, I decide who to set based on these matchups in order to increase our chances of getting a kill.”

“My favorite volleyball memory from this year was our win against Ardrey Kell on senior night. It was an emotional game against a long-time rival, but we came out with a 3-0 victory after a long night of celebrating our accomplishments as seniors. My favorite memory last year was also on senior night when we beat Marvin Ridge in a tough five-set match. It was a long and grueling game, but we won the last set 15-13 on our senior night, making our victory even sweeter. The team also had a great win over Ardrey Kell my sophomore year, which was a super awesome game.”

What is the best part about being on the Cougars Volleyball Team?

“My favorite part of being on the Charlotte Catholic Volleyball Team is the bonds that I have formed with my teammates. They have become some of my closest friends, and I know that no matter what happens, I can count on them to have my back. I love the team bonding experiences, and we have some great traditions that have been passed down throughout the years.”

What is your role on the team?

“I am a team captain, so I help to lead the team throughout the game and I am trusted to make good play decisions based on our team’s players.”

Have you made any decisions on where you would like to go to college?

“I hope to attend UNC-Chapel Hill or the University of Washington next year.”

How well do you perform in the classroom?

“I have a weighted GPA of 4.34 and am involved in National Honor Society, German Honor Society, and Math Honor Society, and I am the Vice President of the German Club.”

Are you involved in any community service projects?

“I love to get involved with service projects through German Club, especially the annual trips we make to a nursing home. I also headed the reimplementation of our school’s recycling project, which is now worked on by kids from many different clubs.”
