Marvin Ridge High School junior dancer Joyce Deng has been named the Community Hero Of the Week, Presented by The Union County Comets. The daughter of Jun and Nancy Deng has dance for eight years now, beginning with ballet classes and moving onto the Marvin Ridge Middle and then High School teams. She specializes in Jazz and Pom dancing.

Joyce enjoyed dancing with her Maverick teammates at the UDA National Dance Team Championship in Orlando. In addition to bonding with her teammates, the competition created her favorite dance memory of all time.

This dynamic dancer is a high level student with a 4.4 grade point average and a class rank of 7th. Joyce challenges herself with strenuous AP classes and with extracurricular activities such as being co-captain for the dance team. She is also a social media officer for DECA, a marketing club.

Joyce supports the Isabella Santos Foundation and also works with The Sandbox, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families with kids with life-altering illnesses. The Sandbox hosts the Evening of Believing Prom every year in order to help those families create memories they will remember forever. Joyce has also volunteered and performed at various festivals celebrating Chinese culture, and even performed at an NBA Hornets game.
