Charlotte Latin School freshman Maddie Shannon has been named the winner of the Karsey Glass Breakout Star of the Week Award. Maddie, the daughter of Brian and Kelly Shannon plays basketball for the Hawks and for the Union County Comets. As a 5’9” forward, Maddie helps her teams with rebounding, scoring and defense.

Maddie has recorded many special memories with the Comets playing for big tournament championships all over the Southeast.
“My two favorite athletic memories are when my AAU team, the Union County Comets, and I were down by ten points at halftime at a tournament in Spartanburg. We were so determined to come back so we could win the tournament that we came out very aggressive at the start of the second half and tied up the game very quickly. We ended up winning by two points which was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have shared with my team. Second, at the Deep South tournament in Raleigh this year, I made the winning layup with seconds to go in the game. This basket put the Comets in the winners bracket for the rest of the tournament.”

Inside the classroom, Maddie is a strong student with a 4.16 grade point average. She also participates in Student Council and on the Student Advisory Board. Maddie has also worked with the Nica Nadadores organization to send school supplies and backpacks to children in Nicaragua. Congratulations to Maddie Shannon for being named the winner of the Karsey Glass Breakout Star of the Week Award.
