Cuthbertson High School senior baseball pitcher Reid Viar has been named the winner of the South Charlotte Sports Report Community Hero Award.  The son of Ted and Robin Viar is a starting pitcher for the Cavaliers for the second consecutive season.

Reid and the Cavaliers have set their sights on a top two finish in the conference, winning the conference tournament and making a run in the state playoffs this spring.  Reid knows he will need to be in top form on the mound for the Cavaliers to reach those goals.
His success on the mound has provided Reid with the chance to play college baseball at Brunswick Community College next season.  He hopes to play there for  two seasons before transferring to a Division 1 school for his junior and senior years of college.

Reid carries a 4.19 grade point average in the classroom.  He has earned three academic letters while at Cuthbertson and also been an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Reid has also been involved with “Ellie’s Hats,” an organization that gives care packages and hats to children that have been diagnosed with cancer.  The charity hits home with Reid as his mother, an active representative for the charity, is a Stage IV Colon Cancer survivor.  Reid has also been a volunteer with the Get Your Rear In Gear 5K that is held to raise money for colon cancer research.

Congratulations to Reid Viar for being named the winner of the South Charlotte Sports Report Community Hero Award.
