Zachary Schwartz Wins Prep Spotlight Award Presented by Tutoring Club
Marvin Ridge High School tennis player Zachary
Schwartz has been named the winner of the Prep
Spotlight Athlete of the Week Award, Presented by
Tutoring Club. The 18 year old senior son of Jeff and
Marsi Schwartz began playing tennis at the age of 11.
He has been a big part of the Mavericks Tennis success
the last few years and was a member of the State
Championship Team two years ago. Zachary has
worked hard to become a starter on the team and last
year he played a key starting role on the 2016 State
Championship Team. Zachary uses his quickness to
find success on the court. He never gives up on chasing
down shots, attempting to frustrate his opponent.
Zachary has performed at an extremely high level in the classroom, recording
a 4.7 grade point average. He will attend UNC-Chapel Hill next season and study
Biology. Zachary works hard to maintain his commitment to being a
“I’m a student-athlete, in that order. Sometimes I do have to make sacrifices to
be able to maintain good grades and play on the tennis team. Additionally, I am in
classes with some of my teammates, and some players on my team actually tutor
other players. We all want to see each other succeed in tennis and in academics.
It definitely helps to have the support of my team.”
Zachary has also kept a focus on helping inside his community by assisting with
students at East Elementary School with the Marvin Ridge National Honor Society.
He also helps out each year with the Special Olympics Tennis Tournament.
