Weddington High School lacrosse player James Shipleyissue249Shipley
has been named the Carefree Boat Club Rising Star of
the Week. The sophomore son of James and Tammy
Shipley plays midfield for the Warriors Team. He was
also a key member of the state championship winning
football team for Weddington this past fall. In that game,
James was selected as the Offensive Most Valuable

Back on the lacrosse field, James is working hard to
help his team contend for a state championship. In
fact, he states that his goal for the remainder of high school is; “to win three
state championships in lacrosse and two more in football.”
The success on the lacrosse field caught the attention of the University of
Pennsylvania, a member institution of the Ivy League. James was offered the
chance to make an early commitment to the school’s lacrosse team. He
accepted the offer and is now committed to the school following his graduation in the spring of 2019.

“The University of Pennsylvania is beautiful and I fell in love from the beginning. It has a great education, great lacrosse, great coaching, and a great community.”

The fact that James is an outstanding student was part of the reason Penn was so attracted to the lacrosse player. James recorded a 4.401 grade point average his freshman year, obtaining a rank of fifth in his class. He is also a member of the Spanish Honor Society and helps out in the community by assisting with the coaching of a youth 7 on 7 football team.

Congratulations to James Shipley for all of his accomplishments to date and for being named the Carefree Boat Club Rising Star of the Week.
