issue240ASophia Lang Senior night individual 2016

Butler High School senior cheerleader Sophia Lang has been named the Queen City Audio, Video and Appliances Community Heroes Award winner. The 17 year old daughter of Doug and Pam Lang has been cheering since her eighth grade school year. Sophia brings a full arsenal of spirit to everything she does at school and in her community. On the sidelines Sophia enjoys all the cheers and dances her team performs with the marching band. Sophia considers her top cheer skill as dancing, something she has done nearly her entire life.

Inside the classroom, Sophia is an All-American performer with a 4.43 grade point average. She has taken all honors and AP core classes during high school. In addition to her success at school, Sophia has been performing on stage since the age of five.

“I started performing in the Nutcracker with Matthews Ballet when I was in the first grade. My role at that time was as a mouse, where we got to
wear cute grey fuzzy costumes. I’ve been various rolls in the show throughout the years and performed for my final time a couple of weeks ago as
Lead Chinese and Snow. On our last performance, many of us, including myself, were crying right before we went on stage as we knew it was our
last time dancing the Nutcracker together. I’ll never forget my Nutcracker days and am looking forward to our final recital in the “Wizard of Oz”
coming in May. I’m honored that I am getting to dance the part of Dorothy along with my best dance friends who are the other lead characters in
the dance. Dancing has been such a large part of my life and I’ve made some of my best friends who I know I’ll have for a lifetime through it.”

Sophia has been a huge asset to her community. She has enjoyed working on many church events at Matthews United Methodist. Sophia has
especially enjoyed events around the Christmas season that bring joy to the Matthews community. Through the church Sophia has been on many
mission trips to help others in need. Her favorite trips have been to Atlanta and New Orleans to work inside communities that are less fortunate.

Queen City Audio, Video and Appliances salutes Sophia Lang for her continued commitment serving others in our community.
