Third annual event promises exciting matchups, new partnerships and an exceptional start to the high school football season

Charlotte, NC — Scholastic Sports Marketing is proud to announce the return of the “CharlottePreps.TV Kickoff Night, powered by OrthoCarolina.” The event’s exciting doubleheader will once again be featured at the newly renovated Memorial Stadium in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, on Saturday August 22nd, 2015 season at 5:00p.m.

“OrthoCarolina has been a proud supporter of high school football across the region for decades and we are thrilled to again partner with CharlottePreps.TV on another fantastic event. This year’s Kickoff Night will be even bigger and better and OrthoCarolina is happy to support it,” said Blair Primis, Vice President of Marketing for OrthoCarolina.

We are pleased to announce, in addition to presenting sponsor OrthoCarolina, the return of Academy Sports + Outdoors and WFNZ, as sponsors of the Kickoff Night.

First up, the Charlotte Country Day Buccaneers will take on the Myers Park Mustangs, in a long-awaited public-private matchup. This game is especially poignant as Country Day very recently hired former Mustang Defensive Coordinator, Drew Whitman, as their new Head Coach. Drew is replacing his father, Charlotte coaching legend, Bob Whitman. Bob resigned earlier this year after 25 years of coaching at Charlotte Country Day. With the schools being only five miles apart, the winner of this game looks to take away the ultimate bragging rights within the South Park – south Charlotte area.

For the second game of the night, at approximately 8:00p.m., the Mavericks of Mallard Creek will take on the Independence Patriots. The Mavericks offer an exciting challenge for Independence, as they come into the game as back-to-back NCHSAA 4AA State Champions. Independence finished their impressive 2014 regular season undefeated, falling only to Hough in the 3rd round of the NCHSAA 4AA State Championship playoffs.

“The first two years of CharlottePreps.TV Kickoff Night exceeded our expectations and today we’re excited to introduce our plans for year three. The move to Saturday night combined with great matchups, and fan enhancements will make this the best event yet. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from OrthoCarolina, CMS and all of the participating schools. The Kickoff will raise money for the participating schools, CMS middle school athletics and continue to provide a positive experience for the youth of our community,” said James Companion of Scholastic Sports Marketing.

Memorial Stadium has been a sporting venue staple within Uptown Charlotte since the late 1930’s when it was constructed. While an extended amount of time has passed, the city and county have done their part to keep the historic stadium accessible for teams, events and leagues to experience. A number of renovations and upgrades have been completed, most recently the creation of a brand new press box on the north side of the stadium – including accessible seating – a new concourse also on the north side of the stadium, a new south side retaining wall, and improved bleacher seating in areas that time had taken its toll on the stadiums infrastructure.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Middle School Athletics.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online: $10 for Saturday’s doubleheader.
