The Charlotte Catholic High School Alumni Association hosted its annual holiday Alumni Basketball Tournament December 26 and 27, 2014 at CCHS. More than 100 alumni from five decades of graduating classes participated in the event.

New to this year’s tournament was the “Spotlight Game” pitting the 2014 CCHS varsity team against alumni. With only one sub on the alumni bench, the varsity players took the floor with a great deal of confidence. They quickly realized that the alumni still had it as the “old guys” took a substantial lead early in the game. In a game filled with lots of entertainment, plenty of friendly chatter as well as some tremendous shooting, the varsity pulled away with a 3-pointer by Senior Joe Scibelli at the buzzer to win 89-86.

The game was a family affair, with Carter McKinstry ’14 guarding brother junior Justin McKinstry and alumni CJ Brodowicz ’11 and Jack Brodowicz ’12 against junior brother Josh Brodowicz. The alumni team also included Varsity Boys’ Coach Mike King, JV Girls’ Coach Stephan Schachner ’85, JV Girls’ Assistant Coach Ryan Kilmartin ’12, Pete McArdle ’87, Peter Grant ’90 and CCHS parent/head referee Jon Riggsbee.

The CCHS Boys’ Varsity Team also includes sophomore Jimmy Abate, juniors Jacob Becks, Penn Conrad, Xander Gagnon, Jack Larkin, Sam Smith, Owen Winters and Nick Zuhosky along with seniors Chris Campion, Christian Chapman, Cole Perry and Joe Scibelli.

The CCHS Alumni Association was founded in 1987 to provide social, spiritual and educational enrichment for alumni, students and friends of CCHS. Its mission is to provide a source of additional funding to enhance the academic, spiritual and cultural missions of CCHS. issue202alumnicc
