Big time tacklers rose to the top of the voting in the South Charlotte Sports Report Defensive Player of the Year race. Opposing teams knew up front they had to prepare for these two players in order to find success.

The Co-Winners of the South Charlotte Sports Report Defensive Player of the Year Award are:

Lance Moore of Weddington and Twazanga Mugala of Ardrey Kell.

Lance, a junior, was a superior weapon for the Warriors defense. The hard nosed linebacker recorded 104 tackles set a Union County record with 25 sacks this season. Lance also recorded 50 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and also over 50 quarterback pressures. Simply put this young man was all over the field wrecking havoc.

Twazanga or “T” as many call him was the key cog in the Knights defense. This physical specimen of a player recorded 110 tackles on the year, including 16 sacks. He was in the backfield on a regular basis, keeping the Knights opponents off track. Twazanga was recruited by many national programs and has made his commitment to play football next year for the Purdue Boilermakers.
