Zachary Carver, Cuthbertson

Zachary Carver, Cuthbertson

Cuthbertson High School Senior football player Zachary Carver is the perfect example of a driven Student-Athlete.  The 18 year old son of Joe and Angela Carver has pushed himself to find the proper balance between high academic success and achievement in the classroom.  On the football field, Zachary helped lead the Cavaliers to their best season ever with a NCHSAA Semifinal appearance.  Inside the classroom, Zachary has a 4.54 grade point average and wide range of academic honors.

So how does this young man find the time to always strive for success?  He stays focused on the task at hand and always keeps focused on his personal goals and what it takes to achieve them.  Zachary is also motivated by some of his favorite quotes and Bible verses.

“My favorite bible verse is Proverbs 16:3 — Commit all things to him and you will succeed.   I also live enjoy this quote,

“Hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.”

Hard work on the football field has led Zachary to the top of the Union County High School Defensive Stats.  A linebacker, he is one of the leading tacklers in the county after successful transitioning from offensive line to middle linebacker.  His hard work led Coach Johnson to name Zachary  a team captain for the year.

The 2014 season went well for the Cavaliers as they won the conference championship and lived to play in four rounds of the state playoffs before a last second loss to rival Weddington.

When Zachary isn’t on the football field, he enjoys playing lacrosse for the Cavaliers from the long pole position.  He is also enjoys competing in competitive shooting sports and has been a certified open water diver since the age of 12 completing nearly 40 open water dives.

It’s very interesting that Zachary  has kept the same personal goals since the age of 12.

“I want to  Achieve academic and athletic success in high school , earn a scholarship to play football in college  and serve in the armed forces (specifically in Special Operations.)

I also have a goal to become a Doctor, get married and raise a family of my own.”

This young man is well on his way to being able to achieve all those goals.  Along with this grade point average of 4.54, Zachary has earned three letters for academic success and two bars for academic achievement.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and before transferring from Weddington High School, Zachary was in the BETA Club and an FCA Leader.  Zachary is also the treasurer of the New Global Citizens at Cuthbertson and a group leader for People to People Student Ambassadors.

He  is also  a well versed writer, winning the Veterans of Foreign Wars – Voice of Democracy Essay Contest.

The South Charlotte Sports Report has been so impressed in learning all about this young leader and his drive for success.  Zachary is currently waiting out the college recruiting game before deciding what college to attend.  We have no doubt that wherever Zachary Carver is led, he will be driven to find success. Congratulations young man for serving as a leader in your community and committing yourself to high standards of success.
