THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT FOR LADY PANTHERS BASKETBALL

After compiling a brilliant 17-3 record, the Providence High School Lady Panthers junior varsity basketball team can’t wait for next season.  This group of eight young ladies are charting a new course for Lady Panther’s basketball.  With only two sophomores and six freshmen on his squad, Coach Dave Wilson led the determined group to a very successful season of basketball.  Now they turn their focus to the future and set new goals for Providence High School basketball.

“The future for this group has no boundaries,” said Coach Wilson. “This group of young ladies understands what it takes to win and work hard every practice to get even better. Looking for that elusive perfect game, this group loves to compete and feels like they have a chance to compete and win against any team they play. The sky’s the limit with this group. Providence women’s basketball can and will go places they’re not accustomed to.”

When asked what made the team so special, Coach Wilson said the team hungers for change in the program and to become recognized as a team that is always to be respected.  Coach Wilson credits the ladies work habits as the force that will make the changes a reality.

Coach Wilson was quick to point out that the team had many different leaders and didn’t rely on the skills of just one or two players.

“Each game someone did something special to make the difference for the team that particular game. Of course we have individual stats, but our most important stat for us is a win.”

From day one The Lady Panthers junior varsity team appeared to be special.  They were determined to not just show up and win half their games and move on to the next sport.  That determination made the winning results possible.

One of the team captains, sophomore Mariah Thomas  spoke about the season.

“This season in JV girls basketball we only had eight players on the team,  because of our small number and Coach Dave's encouragement we were able to reach our goals. One thing coach said that stuck with me was, "practice hard--play hard" and we did a lot of both.  Working hard brought us together as a unified team not only on the court, but off. I'm very proud of the my fellow teammates and our 17-3 record. Big thanks to Coach Dave Wilson.”
Freshman, Allie Weiller  recognized the value of coming together as a team.

“This season on the Providence JV Women's Basketball team we started as a group of individuals, but through the hard work and determination of our coach we emerged as a team. Coach Wilson taught us to believe in ourselves and to never give up.  We worked hard to accomplish what was above and beyond the expectations of the people around us."

Now that these young ladies have tasted success together, plans are being made for a busy off season of basketball.

“This group is committed to changing the way other programs view Providence High School women’s basketball. They understand that to be the best you have to work harder than all others. Most players live near each other and I’m sure they will get together and work on what we started this season. This group has lofty goals and understands to reach them that there’s more work to be done.”

With a solid base now in place, these eight young ladies will continue to build a foundation for new success for Providence High School Ladies Basketball.

The South Charlotte Sports Report Congratulates Coach Wilson and his young players for a job well done this season!  Good Luck in the future and keep reaching for the stars!
