MYKAELA WILLIAMS DELIVERS ON THE SOFTBALL FIELD AND IN THE CLASSROOM
by Jen Rosene, Ardrey Kell High School
When the going got tough on the softball field at Ardrey Kell High School this spring, the Knights knew they could count on Mykaela Williams to deliver. Whether it was a key hit or a diving catch in the outfield, Mykaela was always prepared to help the Knights win a softball game.
Mykaela, the daughter of Mike and Sarah Williams, is a rising junior at Ardrey Kell High School. With a batting average of .329, Williams was awarded the Offensive Player of the Year for the Knight’s 2008 season. Mykaela also earned Southwest 4A All-Conference honors and was named to the South Charlotte Sports Report All-South Softball team this spring.
Her Ardrey Kell teammates took notice to Mykaela's efforts.
“She takes a leadership role in the outfield and keeps the team focused in the dugout.” said teammate Mary Dougherty. Mykaela always went the extra mile when it came to practicing during Ardrey Kell’s spring season. She would often stay after the required practice for a hitting lesson or extra conditioning.
Leadership is nothing new for Mykaela as she excels on and off the softball field. Inside the classroom Mykaela maintains a grade point average of 4.5 and is enrolled in honors and AP courses. In the future, she aspires to attend UNC-Chapel Hill to extend her academic and athletic career.
This summer Mykaela will be traveling with the Legacy Gold, an 18 and under college showcase team. With this team she will be traveling to tournaments in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Colorado, Florida, and Tennessee. The travel will allow her to compete with some of the best teams in the nation to further her skills and experience. College softball coaches from around the country will fill the grandstands scouting the players, hoping to land the perfect player for their individual colleges.
“ I am really looking forward to this season with the Legacy. I love the friendships gained and the opportunities to become a better player” said Mykaela on her upcoming season.
Through dedication, commitment and hard work Mykaela has achieved notable success this season for the Knights. The South Charlotte Sports Report salutes Mykaela for her hard work and dedication on the softball field and in the classroom.
