LAUREN WELLS RUNS FOR THE BEACH

South Mecklenburg High School Class of 2007 graduate Lauren Wells will soon depart for UNC-Wilmington and beaches of North Carolina.  After running her way to a very successful high school career, the daughter of Tom and Liz Wells committed to run track and cross country for UNC-Wilmington.

Her career accomplishment list at South Meck is quite long.   She captured conference championships in the 1600 and 3200, finished 2nd in the cross country conference meet, 3rd place finish at regionals, ran successfully in the indoor track season… the list goes on and on.

After starting to run in the 7th grade, her talent level began to increase.  At first, running was simply something to do to stay in shape for basketball.  She also started out as a sprinter, but the distances began to increase with each year.  In the tenth grade, Lauren began to run everyday.  Over the last year, she has averaged 40 miles of running each week.

After visiting UNC-Wilmington, Lauren decided she wanted to be a part of the Seahawk Track Program.

“I fell in love with Wilmington,” Lauren said. “The coaches and other runners were all super nice to me, and I knew that I wanted to be a part of their team.”

Lauren plans to compete in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.  With this commitment, Laura will continue to be a year round competitor.

With all the time devoted to training, Lauren kept a strong focus on academics.  She graduated with a 3.8 GPA and was a member of The National Honor Society, The National Technical Honor Society and the BETA Club.

The South Charlotte Sports Report sends out our best wishes to Lauren as she runs to a successful college career!
