PROVIDENCE VOLLEYBALL KICKS OFF THEIR DRIVE
FOR THREE IN A ROW
While everyone talks about the dominance on The Independence
High School football team, one shouldn’t forget about
the Volleyball team from Providence High School. Led
by first year varsity head coach Karen Bradbury, the Panthers
are aiming for their third consecutive 4A North Carolina
State Championship. With Lauren Swecker (this week’s
athlete of the week) and Katie Dennehy leading the Panthers,
the team hopes to match its 27-0 record from last season.
The Panthers kicked the season off with a 3 game sweep of
a strong Charlotte Catholic team, 25-13, 25-9, 25-15.
Coach Bradbury came away pleased with the effort in her
first match after replacing legendary volleyball coach Zoe
Bell. Bell is now the Athletic Director at Providence
High School.
“I saw a lot of potential out there today; we still
have to tap into all of it. The season will be a challenge;
we have a lot of girls playing new positions, so we have
to keep working hard.”
The Panthers will continue to rise above the net and be
a tough opponent for all the challengers this season.
