CORBAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY OPENING
SOON IN SOUTH CHARLOTTE
Daryl Givner, a dynamic and energetic educator is set to
open Corban Christian Academy next month. He and other
board members met to discuss their concern about the education
offered in the local schools. With concerns ranging from
the lack of instruction in most schools, the lack of focus
on basic curriculum, low test scores evidencing the lack
of knowledge students are receiving, the overcrowding in
schools, the lack of morals and respect our young people
have, and constant absenteeism, the group entered into a
period of prayer. After much discussion, it was determined
that a private Christian school would be created here in
South Charlotte. Corban Christian Academy was formed to provide
a solid Christian based education. The vision was to stand
erect beside any school, both public and private.
Mr. Givner has over 25 years in the educational community
with roles as both a teacher and administrator. He
has experience with children of various social, physical
and behavioral backgrounds. He also has a Christian
foundation and has held positions in the church to include,
Youth Minister and Chairperson of the Trustee Board.
“God gave me a vision to service his children,” said Givner, Executive
Director. “I truly believe I have a gift to communicate and work with
youth. With Corban Christian Academy, we want to use our talents to help
educate area students. I believe Corban’s students, teachers and
staff will truly have a positive and constructive impact in Charlotte. We
plan to develop students that will be great representatives of God, their families
and their school.”
“As the city of Charlotte continues to grow, particularly the South
Charlotte/Ballantyne area, the need for a more diverse group of educational
choices provides an important niche for Corban Christian Academy,” Givner
added.
As part of that belief, Corban Christian Academy will focus
on building character. Using the Character First Motto,
the Academy teaches that character is what motivates actions… and
actions are what determine our total welfare and future.
Corban Christian Academy believes in building character.
Curriculum will be provided to challenge young adults to
pursue their dreams built on character. Nine character
qualities will be emphasized to include; Responsibility -
Patience - Initiative - Self-control - Punctuality - Discretion
- Resourcefulness - Tolerance - Creativity
Students are also required to complete 90 hours of Christian
Service by working in the Church, in the community and participating
in Mission activity.
Along with a strong academic program, the school will offer
athletic programs in soccer, basketball, track and field,
softball and baseball. The Corban Christian Rams hope
to add more athletic programs as the school grows over the
next few years.
Corban Christian Academy will be a member of the Association
of Christian Schools International (ACSI.)
The Academy is located on the grounds of Harrison United
Methodist Church at the intersection of Old Lancaster Highway
and Providence Road West. The 2006-07 school year will
begin in early September and enrollment is currently underway
for grades 6-12.
