Pre-Season Top 10 Baseball Poll
We proudly debut our first ever South Charlotte Sports Report Pre-Season High School Baseball Poll. Our nine person selection committee cast their pre-season votes and we have tallied the results to compile a Top-10 Poll. The SCSR Fan Vote Poll awarded a # 1 vote to South Meck, allowing them to finish third in the voting by only one vote. ONLY high schools located in our newspaper coverage area are included in this poll. By no means is this poll a sure-fire guarantee of final results as many things can and will happen along the way to the state championship events. Please note, we are a positive, youth based publication and this poll is designed to promote kids and teams in a positive fashion.
We wish each and every player the very best of luck this season. South Charlotte Sports Report is looking forward to watching kids dream their dreams on the baseball field this spring. Good Luck to All.
South Charlotte Sports Report Pre-Season Top 10
(# of 1st place votes in parentheses)
1. Providence High School (6)
Quite possibly the most talented team Coach Hignight has had. The Panthers are led by Andrew Moritz, Austin Leonard, Josh Hiatt among others. They will find a way to score runs and if the pitching comes through as expected, this can be a very special year for the Panthers.
2. Charlotte Christian School (3)
Charlotte Christian may be every bit as loaded as Providence, but with changes to the Jack Sink Tournament and a new Spring Break Tournament on tap these two outstanding teams will not have the chance to play one another. Coach Simmons will call on Jackson Kowar, Reece Hampton, Bailey Lewis and other seniors to lead the Knights this season
3. South Mecklenburg High School (1)
The winner of the SCSR Fan Poll Vote have a lot of talent, but the biggest question mark may be pitching depth. Max Bazin and Eric Jones provide strong leadership for Sabres
(tie) Ardrey Kell High School
Henry Ryan and Mason Belcher provide a nice one-two punch on the mound and Aaron Pilkington should be even more powerful with his bat this year. A few new players have the ability to stand up and help the Knights score the runs they will need in the big games. Will contend with Providence and South Meck all season long
5. Myers Park High School
Coach Burnett has a lot of talent on hand this year. The Mustangs will win their conference and look to do damage in the state playoffs. Could have as many as 10 college baseball players on his roster this year.
6. Marvin Ridge High School
The starting pitcher, Max Wotell, wears a Team USA Gold Medal around his neck and throws the ball very fast. Supporting cast is quite talented. Will battle for a conference title.
7. Weddington High School
Never count Coach Poole out, he is well known for developing talent at Weddington. The Warriors will be a scrappy bunch this year and could surprise
8. Charlotte Catholic High School
The Cougars have their most talented roster in well over a decade. Solid pitching, improved defense and more. This is the year they need to take a win over one of the big three in their conference.
9. Cuthbertson High School
Strong talent at the top, is there enough depth to go toe-to-toe with the top teams in the area. Should contend for far more wins than losses
10. Charlotte Country Day School
Jordan Greene will lead the way for this talented team. Will need for a couple of pitchers to stand up and be counted this spring.
(tie) Metrolina Christian Academy
Folks need to stand up and take notice, this team has serious talent. Nearly knocked off Charlotte Christian in the state tournament last year.
