Charlotte Latin seniors Toby Okwara and Trey Powell have been selected as semifinalists in the 51st annual National Achievement Scholarship Program. They are among 1,600 black American high school seniors who now have an opportunity to compete for approximately 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth $2.5 million.

Amaka Okonneh was named an Outstanding Participant in the program.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program, conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is a privately financed academic competition established in 1964 to recognize academically promising black students throughout the nation. Students’ scores on the preliminary SAT determine semifinalists, who are designated within geographic regions and are the highest-scoring program entrants in the states that form each region.3246658_33e68c2da928494f8adebcda0a27283e

Toby is an outstanding Student-Athlete at Charlotte Latin. In addition to being a successful football player, Toby earned All-American honors in the 2014 National Prep Wrestling Championships.
